The Library 21 planners took these criticisms to heart and designed a space that celebrated books and human interactions at the same time that it showcased new technologies. There was a facsimile of the Gutenberg Bible, as well as an adult non-fiction browsing collection of about 800 books. The adult reading area featured comfortable lounge furniture by Herman Miller, Inc. (the still-popular Eames Aluminum Group chairs).
